How does the digital divide impact on social capital and
what are the ramifications thereof.
What is a Digital Divide?
It is the space between people who have instant access to
computers and the internet and people you don’t.
What is considered social capital?
It is an idea that connects individuals and entities that
can be economically valuable. You get a job at a company through a friend of
yours then you have used your social capital.
Many people think race, wealth and gender divides a nation
but maybe one of the biggest divisions is a digital divide. There are many
people in the world that have access to a computer and the internet but are is
still many people that aren’t. We live in an age where nearly everyone has a
smartphone or computer. But some people don’t because of many reasons, they can’t
afford it or they do see or feel the need to be connected online. There are
consequences to those people that are not online. The best way to find a job
now days is on the internet, banks are at a point where most of the
applications for a new card or a loan are done online. There is online shopping
and many other things that people you do not have this social capital cannot
benefit from it.
WOW WHAT A STRONG STATEMENT.
